Chief Minister School Safety Program

Key Objectives

The program seeks to:

  • Raise awareness among students and school communities regarding safety precautions and disaster preparedness.
  • Engage students in building disaster-resilient communities.
  • Develop school safety guidelines and training manuals.
  • Conduct capacity-building training for students and teachers.
  • Raise awareness about various hazards and safety measures.
  • Provide skill enhancement through activities and mock drills.
  • Conduct safety audits and prepare school disaster management plans.

Program Activities and Achievements

The program involved a series of well-organized activities:

  • Training of Trainers (ToT): Over 750 master trainers were trained in school safety and disaster management. This training equipped them to further train teachers and students at the school level.
  • Training of Teachers and Students: Training programs were conducted in schools to educate teachers and students on disaster management and safety protocols. More than 8,250 teachers and 206,250 students received training.
  • Development and Distribution of Materials: School safety manuals and guidelines were created and distributed to students and teachers. The program included the development and distribution of school safety guidelines, training manuals, IEC posters, and documentary films. Over 187,500 copies of safety manuals and guidelines were provided to students. Informative posters about various disasters were displayed in schools. More than 75,000 posters were put up in 3750 schools. Training kits were also provided to schools, containing materials like chart paper, markers and safety posters.
  • School Disaster Management Plans: School disaster management plans were developed through safety audits. School Disaster Management Plans (SDMPs) were developed for each participating school, incorporating safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Mock Drills: Schools conducted mock drills to practice emergency procedures. Mock drills were conducted in all participating schools with the support of fire and health departments to enhance preparedness for emergency situations.

Outcomes

The Chief Minister School Safety Program has significantly enhanced school safety awareness and preparedness in Uttar Pradesh. By training teachers and students, developing safety resources, and creating disaster management plans, the program has contributed to building a safer and more resilient school environment for children across the state. By promoting a culture of safety, the program has contributed to creating safer school environments and building a more resilient community

  • Introduction
    Uttar Pradesh is highly vulnerable to a range of disasters, both natural and man-made, which pose significant threats to its population, especially children. These disasters can have devastating impacts on children's well-being, affecting their physical safety, causing psychological trauma, disrupting education, and increasing their vulnerability to exploitation and abuse. Recognizing the importance of school safety, the Uttar Pradesh government, through the UPSDMA, has implemented the Chief Minister School Safety Program. This program aims to create safe learning environments by focusing on preparedness and awareness.
